Jeannine Osayande Biography

Committed to exploring art through all aspects of life, Osayande is a performer, educator and choreographer of West African, Old Mali Empire, dance. She is founder and director of Dunya Performing Arts Company, specializing in Artist-In-Residence programs. Osayande apprenticed with the Art of Black Dance and Music, Boston, MA; Ibrahima Camara, Senegal; and currently with Prof. F. Nii Yartey, Ghana. In 2009 Osayande was certified in Traditional and Contemporary African Dance by Noyam African Dance Institute and the Ghana Education Service. She is a 2009 SHHS Wall of Honor recipient, 2006 Independence Foundation Fellowship in the Arts recipient, and a 2005-2010 Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance Artist in Residence recipient. She has served as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of the Arts, and Bryn Mawr College. Currently Osayande is an Adjunct Associate in Performance at Swarthmore College.
