John Van Druten's 'Bell, Book and Candle'

Pictured (L-R): Cast members Chloe Kekovic, Dean Scott, Allie Rohr, Jordan Ostrum and Jordan HodessJust in time for Halloween, Ursinus stages this fun and sexy romantic comedy about the free-spirited witch, Gillian Holroyd, who crushes on her neighbor and casts spells on him to cinch the deal. Finding true love, however, proves dangerous for Gillian, as she must face the possibility of losing her supernatural powers.

Director Beverly Redman directs the play Oct.  30, 31 and Nov. 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Blackbox Studio Theater in the campus Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Center. Parking, in the lot off Ninth Ave., is free.

Tickets are $5 general admission and $2 students and senior citizens. A new, easy reservation system is at or call the Box Office at 610-409-3030.

John Van Druten's Bell, Book and Candle enjoyed a successful run on Broadway in the early 1950s and was followed by a hit film starring Kim Novak, Jimmy Stewart, Jack Lemmon, Ernie Kovacs and Hermione Gingold. The television show Bewitched also drew its inspiration from the play, but the play's more serious, if subtle, allusions to McCarthyism and HUAC's witch hunts are decidedly absent in the '60s sitcom.

Collegeville community residents are invited to enjoy a reception with light refreshments after the Friday, Nov. 1 performance with the director, cast and crew. For further information, please leave a message at the Box Office, 610-409-3030.
